Kathryn Miller, LCSW, BCD has about twenty-five years of clinical experience and holds the highest achievement in her field, Board Certified Diplomate. Thus, she has remained committed to the highest standards of clinical practice since completing her graduate studies with honors from Tulane University. Currently, Kathryn has a private practice in San Antonio, where she skillfully assists patients in achieving their individual goals. By accurately assessing each person's unique objectives, Kathryn is able to achieve greater precision in the intervention process. The outcome of this active collaboration between her and her patients increases treatment effectiveness and leads to the development of increased sense of achievement, well-being, and autonomy. Furthermore, patients become equipped with an array of tools to tackle the inevitable future challenges of life.
Kathryn has worked with a wide variety of clients at several diverse settings. After completing an internship at LSU's Medical School Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, Kathryn moved to Chicago where she worked exclusively with adolescent girls for seven years. Starting as the school therapist, she was promoted to the school clinical supervisor. After gaining more clinical experience from a prestigious agency, Kathryn moved to Florida where she became the Florida State Coordinator for Postpartum Support International. The training and experience she gained in Florida enabled her to make postpartum issues a central focus of her treatment. However, her husband's job transfer required Kathryn's family to move to San Antonio.
Shortly after making San Antonio her permanent residence, Kathryn worked alongside two prominent San Antonio psychiatrists for about seven years, treating a broad spectrum of patients, both adolescent and adult. She became very familiar with the various medications and treatments used for different disorders. In addition, she became a very proficient therapist with the ability to work with a wide spectrum of conditions ranging from mood disorders such as depression, to various addictions and several personality disorders.
Although trained at a very prominent school for psychodynamic psychotherapy, Kathryn has adapted to the age of managed care. She has skillfully learned to incorporate several different therapeutic modalities into her treatment, including Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Currently, she is working on her certification to become Gottman certified.
Kathryn is also a Certified Anger Management Therapist, Certified Trauma Therapist, and an active member in NASW, ACSW, IATP, and the Psychoanalytic Society. However even given all her creditials, Kathryn believes her greatest achievement is that all of her patients' have continued to see her in treatment despite her change in location. Their loyalty is a testament to Kathryns' commitment to improving the lives of her patients through appropriate and effective treatments.
Kathryn's therapeutic approach provides support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their own strengths and attain the personal growth they strive to achieve.
